The Grand Stand Prediction

Both sides will come into this with the intention to improve on their opening game result. The hosts, who were hoping to start the tournament on a winning note, could only manage a draw against Congo-Brazzaville. Despite their inability to secure a win in the opener, coach Esteban Becker will be happy with the way his side played, with the likes of captain Emilio Nsue and fellow attacker Javier Balboa having lit up the stage on opening night. The importance of a victory in this game is crucial to the hosts, and Becker will have stressed this to his troops, with Gabon sitting at the top with 3 points. A win for the Equatoguineans would go a long way towards closing the gap and securing a place in the knockout stages of the tournament.

For Burkina Faso, the mountain to climb is a lot higher. A 2-0 defeat in the opening game means that a loss tonight could see the Stallions eliminated from the tournament with a game to go. Coach Paul Put will be looking to do everything in his power to prevent this, and he will be hoping his players will have learnt from the mistakes of the first game. The likes of the Traore brothers, Jonathan Pitroipa and the captain Charles Kabore will have their work cut out for them, and it will be interesting to see if they have enough in their arsenal to match the hosts and stay in the tournament.

Expect a tense, physical game. Both sides will be looking to create goal scoring opportunitites but will focus a lot more on not losing the game. The midfield battle will be key, with great pressure now resting on the creative shoulders of the likes of Nsue and Traore. This is a game that could be decided by a lapse in concentration or a schoolboy error, and both managers will be hoping to their side will capitalise on these.
