The Grand Stand Prediction
Gabon come into this fixture with overwhelming confidence buzzing through the camp. While they may anticipate a tough fixture against the Red Devils, Jorge Costa’s panthers will feel that they will be able to build on the momentum from their 2-0 triumph on Saturday. With most football voices echoing the notion that 5 points could be enough to secure a spot in the last 8, a win for Gabon would ensure that they surpass that figure, go into the last group stage in a comfortable position on the Group A table. So expect the Panthers to go for the win today, even if it might make them a tad more vulnerable in defence.
Congo-Brazzaville will definitely be looking to improve on their performance against Equatorial Guinea. Claude Le Roy’s men were anonymous for large parts of that encounter, and the veteran coach will hope that they can produce a better performance. While they were happy to take a point away from their first fixture, the same result might not be as satisfactory this time around, and the Brazzaville faithful will be looking to the likes of Dominique Malonga and Thievy Bifouma to score the goals that will keep them in contention going into the last game.
We predict a strong showing from a Gabonese attack, which includes Borussia Dortmund attacker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who opened the account for Gabon in their opening fixture. Congo will spend periods of time absorbing pressure and will hopefully capitalise on the chances they manage to create.
