The Grand Stand Prediction:
Bafana Bafana are a side that has needed a respite from the media circus that ensued after they imploded in their 1st game of the tournament, imploding from a winning position against the continents top ranked side and ending up on the end of a thumping that handed them their first loss in their gaffers tenure. It will be worth watching how the side reacts to the pressure of having to win the tie to ensure their lives in the competition, changes will be expected and much more character will be demanded from the side as they take on a decent and experienced Senegal side they have a chance of getting three points off of if they pitch show the quality the had begun to exhibit during the qualifiers.
The Lions of Teranga can consider themselves fortunate to already have a point in the bag in this tournament after being run ragged by a pace filled and creative Ghanaian attacking unit that came with a game plan that exploited their defensive vulnerabilities; Senegal defended very well to ensure that their side escaped the tie relatively unscathed. Considering how Alain Giresse took a considerable amount of flack for benching star hit man Papiss Demba Cissé for the duration of the last game when many believed he was a better goal threat than the more hard working Mame Birame Diouf, who scored the Lions of Teranga their equalising goal and showed great endeavour upfront. If Giresse decides to revert to his more trusted 3-5-2 and pair his best offensive threats in attack, Senegal could cause the reshuffled Bafana Bafana backline a fair amount of unnecessary headaches.
This game has all the makings of a modern day African Cup of Nations classic, both sides will be determined to up their performances from the previous round of fixtures and show why they deserve to be ranked amongst Africa’s elite; the tactical approach from both gaffers will dictate just how much they desire a positive result out of this fixture. We could see just how determined the players are to ensure that their nation’s progresses to the next round by how they apply themselves to the task at hand, we could just be fortunate to witness one of the best games of the tournament so far once all is said and done.
