The Grand Stand Prediction
Playing at the same time as Gabon and Equatorial Guinea will be the clash between Congo-Brazzaville and Burkina Faso. Congo come into this clash top of the standings following their hard fought win over Gabon last time out.
Claude Le Roy’s men went into that on the back of a rather disappointing draw, and the veteran gaffer, who previously said his side have exceeded many expectations just by qualifying and were therefore under no pressure, will now have the pressure setting into the side. In this his record 8th Afcon, and Congo-Brazzaville’s first Afcon since 2000, he will be looking to go as far as possible, and will be delighted that they go into the final fixture on top of the pile. He will, however, remind his lads that defeat against Burkina Faso could see them make an early exit from the competition, and will look towards his midfield for stability and balance in both defence and attack. While a draw might prove to be sufficient for Le Roy and his men, he will be hoping to record a second victory, and for that to happen, Thievy Bifouma and co will have to be on song in front of goal for the Red Devils.
For Burkina Faso, this has been a disappointing showing so far. The Stallions appear to be a shadow of the side that outclassed and outperformed opponents last time out, and as it stands, the side that advanced unbeaten in the group stages in 2013 will leave Equatorial Guinea without a single victory. The likes of Pitroipa and the Traore duo have struggled to emulate the form that saw them to a final showdown with the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the last Afcon. To avoid any embarrassment, only a win will do for The Stallions, and even then, they will have to hope that the result in the Gabon-Equatorial Guinea fixture go in their favour. While it may seem unlikely for their side to go through, the Burkina Faso faithful will hope and pray, while the players look to restore national pride against a silently confident Congo-Brazzaville side.
