The Grand Stand Prediction:

We have now entered the go big or go home, after playing in the losers final, and both sides are finally picking up form and displaying the level of quality we had expected from them at the start of the tournament; it will be enjoyable to watch how both gaffers approach this clash as their sides seem to play their best football when they are allowed the freedom to attack and throw caution to the wind as they search for goals.

DR Congo have surprised a few people by making it to the semi’s, especially after their skipper and midfield general Yussuf Mulumbu went down with an injury early in the group stages, they now sit on the cusp of booking a spot in the final of the grandest stage in African football behind some solid team performances and a handful of impressive shifts by talisman Yannick Bolasie who has been a revelation for the side with his astonishing array of skills and breathtaking turn of pace; the man who seems unable to net a goal without falling down will be up for this clash, if DR Congo are to get a positive result against The Elephants, they will need to continually feed the beast that is Bolasie and allow him to roam around the attacking third and cause a relatively inexperienced Ivory Coast defence some problems.

The Elephants are still searching for their 2nd continental crown since the were crowned kings of the continent in ’92, their talisman Yaya Touré will be keen to ensure that he is the man that finally delivers success to his starved nation as he leads his side to the promised land after years of heartbreak. Buoyed by the impressive form of Max Gradel and an ever improving and relatively young defensive line, The Elephants have kicked it up a notch or two in their last two games and they will be eager to finally get close to their best form as they aim to stampede their way into the final. A lot of the lads in the current side are part of the new generation of Elephants on the rise in the football fraternity, an Afcon win could be the perfect foundation for the side to build upon going forward; the ability is there for Ivory Coast to go all the way and win the trophy this time around, yet they will need to show that they have the aptitude to step it up in winning-time and follow-through on all that ability and potential.
