The Grand Stand View

After finishing 2nd in the last ICC Cricket Word Cup, one begins to feel as if the free scoring experienced Sri Lankan trio of Tillakaratne Dilshan, Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara will be targeting a second crown to add to Sri Lanka’s 1996 victory while they are still at their peak as a batting unit. While some are berating the sides chances of winning the tournament due to the fact that their bowling attack seems pitiful in comparison to the arsenal they possess in the batting department; we at GSV look at that as an advantage for them, considering how they can score above 300 easily in an innings, Sri Lanka don’t necessarily need to bowl out sides that they have already placed under pressure with the strength and dynamism of their batting line-up. They may seem like the dark horse to some in this competition, and the odds of 10-1 mean that you could put your bookie out of pocket by calling Sri Lanka to equal their previous ICC Cricket World Cup performance at the very least in this 11th edition of Cricket’s grandest showpiece.
