The Talent Scout Report: (Positional)

Mzansi has always had a penchant for producing refined central defenders that have an added air of confidence about them that allows them to marshal their fellow defenders with a well mixed blend of authority and composure; while it may have taken us a few years to do so, we seem to finally be adding to that elite list of players with the current generation of centre backs that seem to be lead by the Claremont born Kwandawensizwa Mngonyama. Kwanda, as he is commonly referred to in football circles, is a young central defender who has exhibited a high level of maturity for a lad his age and he has deservingly gained invaluable first team experience in the last two seasons as a professional; a born leader with the defensive acumen to put many far more seasoned cb’s to shame, Mngonyama has the potential to develop into one of the finest central defenders on the continent before he even reaches his peak as a footballer. Gifted with the match reading ability to compliment his excellent positional sense and seemingly snuff out trouble before it becomes a cause for concern defensively, Kwanda also has the physical gifts to be an excellent man marker with the ability to leave some of the best forwards feeling claustrophobic after spending the game neatly tucked in his back pocket. The lad has shown a willingness to become a complete modern age elite level central defender by adding to his game and developing into more of a ball-playing centre back that can be trusted in possession and utilised in the construction of attacking moves when the side looks to build from the back and draw the opposition onto them while shifting their defensive lines and creating more space for the attacking players to manoeuvre in. With players like Kwanda constantly improving and playing at a high level, Mzansi Diski is in great stead talent wise, it is now up to us as a fraternity to ensure that such lads reach their potential and become the stars they seem destined to be; Kwanda has the potential and mental aptitude to succeed at the highest level, and we at GSV continue to pray that he fulfils that potential and even exceeds our expectations.
