Eyebrows were raised when Engen Santos promoted a fifteen year old starlet into the first team after they were relegated to the NFD and lost a few key players with ambitions of only playing top flight football; the confident youngster named Fagrie Lakay, no relation to the other two more renowned Lakay’s, took to first team football as the heir apparent to Erwin Isaacs like a fish to water and he has not looked out of place since. Blessed with great balance and a keen eye for goal, the powerfully built Fagrie ensured that he made the most of the starts he was afforded by the gaffer, NFD sides have to meet an u/23 quota of 5 SA eligible lads starting every game; the raw potential within the lad is clearly evident in his game as he utilises his great off the ball running to create pockets of space for him to play within and make the most of his direct running ability by isolating defenders and eliminating them by using his great technique and pace to constantly beat his marker with relative ease. Yet it is the lads ability to develop into a spectacular goal scorer that seems to mark him out as one of the finest attackers in his talented generation, adding goals to an already entertaining and creative game would make him one of the best attackers on the continent as the lad already has the composure to make full use of his good technique when he is in the box; with time on his side, Fagrie Lakay could develop into that elite level forward Mzansi has been desperately searching for.
