The Grand Stand View

There is much to marvel over when one looks at Polokwane City and what they have managed to accomplish as a football institution in such a relatively short span of time, they now seem to be a club on the threshold of establishing themselves as a fixture in the premier league and ensuring that they remain fully fitted to challenge for a top 8 slot every season while doing well in the various cup competitions. Kosta Papić has opened the organisation as a whole up to new possibilities with his high-octane attacking brand of football in a side that doesn’t rely on superstars or exuberantly remunerated footballers that have had their chance to play at the elite level, Polokwane City are truly one of the few teams one can watch for an entire season and always be entertained regardless of the result.

The pressure will truly be on the reshuffled pack to improve upon the lofty standards set by the team last season and ensure that they keep themselves defensively solid while remaining offensively fluent in their attempt to finally break into that top 8 bracket and maybe even go on a great cup run or two during the campaign. Great attacking football can often count for little in way of consolation when the team cannot keep out more than they score, the gaffer was evidently disgruntled by the overall team defensive effort last season and he will surely have taken measures to ensure that the team strikes a balance between attack and defence during this campaign. It may be uncanny for a side to overachieve for two seasons in a row, yet Rise & Shine would not be raising any eyebrows over at GSV if they fulfil their potential and break into that top this time around. The squad is much changed, yet the tactics are still the same and we are definitely in for an entertaining season where City are concerned; one of the promising new new signings and a youth prospect or two rising to the occasion would definitely see City becoming an even more formidable force to be reckoned with.
