The Grand Stand View

Football remains one of the greatest proponents of the good we find within Globalisation, often times we see talented footballers from “lesser” football nations developing into elite level professionals thanks to the increased levels of tutelage and nurturing they receive in more developed countries. Elseid Hysaj’s parents couldn’t have picked a better country to migrate to, Italy has taught Elseid to be a defence first fullback that can also prove to be a handy outlet on the offensive end, something of a rarity in modern football, where fullbacks are more like deeper-lying wingers due to the inability of many to defend properly.

Gifted with impressive positional play and some outstanding match-reading abilities, Elseid combines his good football brain with a low centre of gravity, that combines well with his burst of pace to make for one dynamic fullback who seems tailor-made for modern football. A competent and versatile ball player who can start attacking moves from the back with his good passing range & vision, Hysaj could prove to be a hard player for opposition attackers to get by and he will definitely be a handful for them going the other way as he looks to show his qualities on both ends of the pitch.

Elseid is well capable of playing in either fullback position, a level of versatility that increases his chances of getting minutes for Albania in France, utility players are golden in tournaments as they offer the gaffer increased options when it’s time to make selections or substitutions. Hysaj has the quality to put in a good shift when called upon; the onus will be on him to prove that he can become a key player for Albania in the years to come, starting with a good couple of performances in EURO 2016.
