The Grand Stand View

Marauding fullbacks have become a must have in modern football; where wide players have the propensity to drift inward during attacking moves, leaving acres of greenery for the fullbacks to bomb into and offer width to the team, by keeping the opposition wide players occupied with tracking back. Steliano is more of a winger-cum-fullback, his mentality will always be attack first, yet that mindset can be a very potent weapon for a side that looks to absorb pressure and break at pace.

An extremely energetic and tenacious footballer whose whole hearted heart-on-sleeve approach to football can be infectious to his team, Steliano Filip is a determined footballer with a good burst of pace and acute timing in tackles who adds something different to the team on both sides of the ball. The pace of wide players at EURO 2016 will prove to be one of the biggest tests for most sides; a player like Filip affords Romania with the luxury of knowing that their fullback is capable of keeping up with the best of them when it comes to a foot race.

The Romanian squad may not be brimming with household names, but they do have players that can be deployed in an effective system that could work well if implemented correctly; with high octane games coming thick and fast at the back end of a gruelling season for many players, a lad like Steliano, who is gifted with the versatility to play well in a few positions, will be key for a team that isn’t blessed with the most gifted of rosters.
